Fall Checklist: Closing Out Hurricane Season and Protecting Your Investment

Florida's hurricane season doesn't officially close until the end of November, but fall is when smart homeowners and property managers start the real work: assessing what the season put your home through, and getting ahead of what's next.
Whether your home came through untouched or took on some wear, this is the season to look closely — before holiday guests, colder nights up north sending snowbirds south, and next year's storm season sneak up on you.
Walk the Exterior Before You Walk Into the Holidays
Start outside. Check roof-to-wall connections, flashing, and any areas where storm winds may have loosened shingles, tiles, or soffit panels. Look at fencing, screen enclosures, and pool cages — these take the brunt of wind events and are often the last thing homeowners think to inspect.
If your home experienced any settling, new cracking in stucco, or doors and windows that suddenly don't close quite right, those can be signs worth having a professional look at before they become bigger structural questions.
A five-minute walk around your property each fall can catch small issues while they're still small. TSG's Strike Team is available if something looks like it needs a closer, structural look.
For Builders and Commercial Property Owners
If you manage a production community or a commercial property, fall is the natural checkpoint to review any open RFIs or field repairs from the season's weather events, confirm your amenity center and common areas are ready for the uptick in fall and holiday activity, and flag anything that needs engineering sign-off before it's covered up or forgotten.
Looking Ahead
Fall is also, quietly, one of the best times to start planning a project for next year. Permitting timelines, design development, and construction documents all take time — and starting the conversation now means you're breaking ground when the weather (and the market) is in your favor.
From all of us at TSG — here's to a safe close to storm season and a strong finish to the year.
